In 2017 a total solar eclipse will be crossing the continential U.S. Something, I first became aware of through reading the Editor's Note in the Nov. 2015 of Discover. What I found most interesting is that campsites around Casper, Wyo. are already booked (according to the Editor's Note). When I brought the subject up, to my wife, she replied that she was aware of the 2017 solar eclipse and had already picked out a camp site where we will be to observe the eclipse. That she had a campsite for the 2017 eclipse was supposed to be a surprise. I was surprised to find out she had already laid plans for the event. NASA, eclipse path

That's a very nice gift !
I plan on basing out of my sister in laws house in Casper, but staying mobile enough to move at the last minute. I am concerned about it being during the height of the Monsoon Season, but the eclipse happens in the morning.

There are plenty of primitive camping possibilities along the eclipse path as well, which IMHO would be infinitely better than an organized campsite.
