I'll be doing support for a group that's running the Wonderland in early August. I'm here to fish for day hike ideas. Day 1 I'll be setting up camp at Mowich Lake--what should I do from here?
Day two I'll be at White River. What should I see? Burroughs Mountain?
And then of course the Longmire, Paradise Park area.
What would you recommend for someone who's never been to the park?
Thanks,

What should I see? Burroughs Mountain? Not sure if difficulty is an issue, but Burroughs Mountain is an easier hike from somewhat nearby Sunrise than White River.

Not difficulty as much as time. I’ll want to be at camp when the runners arrive.
I was thinking about doing the big loop with Glacier Basin and Burroughs but the climb up to Sunrise is kind of a turn off. Anything else in Sunrise area I should see?

With time constraints, I'd drive up to Sunrise, and do the Burroughs Mt. loop at whichever of the 3 lengths (First Burroughs, Second, or all the way to the best views at 3rd). The hike over to Grand Park is pretty nice, too, but I think longer. I really don't think anything up there competes with 3rd Burroughs. From Mowich, hike up to Spray Park. That's a no-brainer, and not a terribly long way, IIRC. I'm less up on the Paradise area--that was the farthest away when I was growing up and I don't know if we ever camped over there. But the drive between White River and Paradise has some nice stuff--stop and hike the Box Canyon, at least.

In 2010 we backpacked to Mystic Lake from Sunrise. Just a few shots to show what's around. Sunrise lodge and parking lot from the ridge (first part of the trail to, well, anywhere).
We started out with clouds, and could see only a glacier on the belly of the beast.
It cleared up as we went, though. I think at this point we're off the Burroughs trail, but same idea (except 3rd Burroughs gets way closer).

oooh, pretty!
it kinda looks like my map has Burroughs Mt Trail veering downhill before 2nd and 3rd Burroughs --is that right? is the 3rd an offtrail scramble?

It's been a long time, but IIRC, the trail does dip between, and may kind of peter out somewhere on 3rd, but I'm pretty sure there's a trail (at least, there was, oh, 35 years ago when I was last out there... oh). I suggest you believe the maps, not me.

I would like to see some old-growth but wasn't sure if it was worth going all the way down Ipsut Creek and back. You can stop and check out some old-growth areas, or at least big trees, along some of your drives between points.

I almost forgot, Skyscraper Peak is an awesome destination. However, it's even further than Burroughs.

Mowich Lake - Spray Park
White river - Burroughs Mtn is probably the way to go, but Summerland is nice.
Longmire - Eagle Peak
What would you recommend for someone who's never been to the park? - Hike to Panorama Point from Paradise - continue to Muir Snowfield if possible.
Comet Falls/Van Trump Park is also nice.
