Once in a life time. Today. This moment. We drift through many, but the moment is but once. Once in a lifetime. This moment does not return. All is but once in a lifetime. Savor each moment. So, live, now. Cherish the past moments and grasp the to come. For a moment is fleeting and to grasp is to be one with the om.

I once read an account of a young woman walking along the Welsh coast when she met an old woman whose advanced age obviously left her with much wisdom. When the young woman asked the elderly woman for advice on life, she told her that all we get in life are scattered moments to hang onto. Sage advice, I think. Cherish and store up those moments.

Some moments you just can't cherish. I had some of those this week. I'm perfectly happy to not grasp any that involve nausea and vomiting.
Just saying :D
Seriously, though, it's good advice. Pay attention to now, because if it's always about the future...who knows.

For awhile I got stuck in the past. It seemed so much better than what I have to look forward to, like I'd already done everything I wanted and now it was only saying good by and letting go. That was a depressive pit to climb out of and took a lot of redefining what I still look forward to

Thankfully, for me, the only time I get depressed is thinking that I won't have time to do everything I want to since I'm not getting any younger. But I I'm trying t get in as much as I can.

Right now is the oldest you've ever been and the youngest you will ever be again.

Right now is the oldest you've ever been and the youngest you will ever be again. I don't find that particularly consoling.

Perhaps, though, one could find inspiration. Or how about "Life is not unlike a loo roll. The closer to the end, the faster it goes."

The "once" in a lifetime, the one that I would like to repeat but probably won't likely ever get another chance, is a very special memory. When the bus wound it's way up and up a long winding road, making that final turn that opens up and fills your very being with utter awe. It was early morning and the clouds were just beginning to rise up from the site. There was a glow not all that unlike the glow you often experience in the high Sierra. I still get a rush just thinking of that moment in time. So what could be so memorable that it even evoked a spiritual response in this mere mortal. Before I went, I looked over lots of pictures, so I thought for sure it would be a let down. But what I was about to experience was anything but a letdown. In the beautiful morning golden glow with an the mist rising, what stood in front of me as I looked out the window, were the ruins of Machu Picchu. The next two days I couldn't get enough of exploring every nook and cranny. The trip i forever etched into my memory. The only thing better at the time would have been to hike the Inca Trail.
It's true, there are many times when "once" can never be bettered. For me a movie, is seldom better the second time. However, there other endeavors where your reward grows by doing it over and over.

Or how about "Life is not unlike a loo roll. The closer to the end, the faster it goes." And there's another uplifting observation!
