Just curious what the average food truck is like in your town/city. I've eaten at food trucks in many different cities and find every city to have a vastly different food truck scene. Portland (OR) is hands down the best scene & the best variety for me.
But in my city, Knoxville (TN), the food trucks are ridiculously expensive, regardless of the quality it is serving. Most of them have jumped onto the farm to food truck bandwagon and those are so expensive, I don't even stop to look. But there are others that just serve your basic tacos or noodle bowls and are still crazy expensive.
Personally, I've always thought of food trucks as being cheap food that you eat with your hands. You don't really expect quality ingredients or anything because its being served out of a modified trailer or camper. I guess this also gives you an opportunity to find a diamond in the rough where maybe some very old woman serves the best Korean food you've ever had for like $3.

Disgustingly good and cheap. I rarely eat at them.

Ours are generally OK on price and food quality. Not great, but not bad. Beats McDonald's.

In 30 years of construction, I had maybe 5 years where a food truck was close by. Boston was the best I had, followed closely by Portland (Oregon). In Honolulu, we had a restaurant sell us plate lunches that were good, but we had an apprentice pick them up for us. Some of the job sites had lunch tents, or cafeterias, but not many.
What I enjoyed about Boston was many of the trucks had a steam table set up on the back of the truck, so we had hot meal selections, like tri-tip beef on noodles, or some other pasta dish.
Cheap? Well, I was paying $5 a lunch, with drink, both in Boston and Honolulu. By the time I got to Portland, it was $6 + the drink. Tucson has some good eats off the trucks as well, but that was never a work location for me.

Don't eat at them. Once in the 80s while working on a large residential construction project there was a converted bus run by a couple women in bikinis that started showing up. There were a couple hundred guys lined up the one time I drove over to it, didn't get food never went back.

We don't usually have them, but some come to the county fair and there are food booths about May through October on Saturdays at the art and farmers market in the fairgrounds here. I tend to only grab a roasted ear of corn or a flat of curly fries at the fair although the Hmong food at the farmers market is wonderful.

My own personal biased opinion is that in DC they're either run by hipsters and selling overpriced froo-froo or they're suspicious mystery substances.
In the MD suburbs where I live they are mostly Salvadoran and frequently parked near Home Depot or gas station lots. The one at Home Depot is called "Lupe's Papusas", which always makes me smile for sounding mildly obscene while being completely innocent. I've never eaten there and frankly I've seen a lot of people near it but none of them ever eating anything.

There is a Mexican food truck at mile 52 of my century route and my turn around point. They claim the best Mexican food and I have to admit it's a convenient stop for a tired and hungry cyclist and very reasonably priced. One of my cycle touring friends had dreams of starting a non-profit organic market/farm.Last I heard he was in Eugene, Or. running a tofurky/organic food truck.I guess the economics and startup costs are much more reasonable...

I didn't even know that food trucks existed until about 5 years ago when one started showing up outside of the building where our mechanics worked. I thought the idea was interesting but there were too many other good choices nearby that were the same price or cheaper. The only way I'd ever use one is if I was in a hurry and it just so happened one stopped right in front of me.

I've only gotten food from a food truck a couple of times. I was not impressed.

Food trucks are extremely popular in some NJ cities (especially New Brunswick), but mostly absent elsewhere. They are called "grease trucks" in local terminology.
I've enjoyed some outstanding food at trucks all over the country, most notably in Portland.

Food Truck? Back in the day when I worked construction we called them by Roach Coach or Gut Truck. They still exist, but there's a whole new breed out there with some darn good food. My own personal biased opinion is that in DC they're either run by hipsters and selling overpriced froo-froo or they're suspicious mystery substances. Maybe. There are some of both out there. A good one might change your mind. Five new D.C. food trucksRoaming Hunger
