Just noticed the up arrow a little while ago. Nice to have. I'm playing around here on my Kindle Fire, the least internet friendly device known to man. So far I really haven't had any problems.

I still wish we didn't have to upload pics It was bound to come up, so here's the story: Uploading here is called attaching photos. It is what you'd expect, but it's not what you'd want. All pictures are simply attached, but they all display as thumbnail images. You the viewer haver to click on them to see them in a new window. A windo you then have to close. So what? It sucks! The tiny pictures are too tiny. I even added a plug-in that "zooms" them to 200% but that's not so great. Worse yet, the forums are allowed 200 megs of free storage. My experience is that nobody in another forum knew anything about what they were uploading! The storage space was filling fast and I couldn;t get them to learn to crip or optimize pictures. Extra storage costs a paltry $3/mo, every month. Maybe BP HQ will see that as a bargain, but I am not paying it.And linked photos are no hit on our storage. Zero! So I decided to turn off the option for attachments. I'm mean! |

Steve, what is the deal with Groups?
There is a Group tab in my profile, but I don't see any means to create a group.
If we had it, among other uses it would be ideal for the HOTB and PG folks to coordinate

There is a Group tab in my profile, That is misleading. As a moderator with super powers, I don't actuallu know what normal members have to look at. The Group thing is for admin types to get people involved at different levels of power. You as a regular user, can't change your group. That said, it may interest you and groups for HOTB or Pickle Gulch to know that a PM can involve up to 20 people. It's a sort of private thread. All listed by the originator of a PM will get the same messages sent back and forth. People can be dropped, but I don't think any can be added after it starts. I'll check on that.  |

So it appears the forums will actually let you reply to a thread as a Guest, without logging in, and put in whatever "Guest Name" you want. I'm just testing this out to see if/how it works.

Huh, so that works (the Guest post ^^^^).
Seems like kind of an odd feature, I guess I'm just not used to that. I suppose it could encourage participation from new members and strangers... then again trolls could abuse that pretty easily. Give it a spin, I say, Steve can always remove it if it became a problem (I think).

Just an aside, maybe just my opinion, but I figured since this is new and being tweaked, now would be the time to chime in.
I'm unsure if the "Gear Closet" really benefits from having three sub-Forums, as well as being able to post threads in the main "Gear Closet" forum. The "Ultralight" and "Mountaineering" forums were all but completely dead in the last working forum (I'm not counting that POS currently on Backpacker... the one before that), so it makes sense to condense it into one single "Gear Closet", simplify it and put a stamp on it.
At least in my opinion. I don't think the extra fragmentation there really helps anything.

I agree with Blue Bear. Now I'm having to look in two places for gear threads. Just have one place for all gear threads.
It's going to take some getting used to the Blue Bear handle. You've been GBH for so long.

Maybe someone who knew Mata?
I've only been around since 06, so I don't really feel right taking the reigns on that.
