I sure hope y'all find this helpful, because I am quite proud of myself. I reverse engineered a Moroccan Kefta recipe into a backpacking meal. For a short day hike this fed 2 people, but if I put in a serious hike. I could eat it all myself. Click here to watch!

Looks good--though that's one of those dishes I'd probably just prepare at home and dehydrate already cooked. That allows the flavors to cook together and usually ends up better--though the freeze-dried meat is lighter than home-dried.

Do you have a list of meals that you typically do that with?

Do you have a list of meals that you typically do that with? Nothing organized. Off the top of my head, I do it with several lentil dishes, with taco filling (which I then mix with rice rather than messing with tortillas), and I waffle back and forth about stroganoff--sometimes I make it and dry it, and sometimes I get sour cream powder and mix the dry ingredients. Hamburger gravy (to put on mashed potatoes) is another hybrid--I cook it up with onions and peppers and seasonings, then add dry gravy mix and freeze-dried peas to the dried mix. Of course, a lot of it also depends on me having access to my dehydrator. If I don't, I have a pretty good list of dishes I can put together with dry ingredients, including some that can be done just from the grocery store.
