I am working on some new backpacking recipes. They will use dehydrated ground beef. As I convert recipes to backpacking recipes, I wonder what the weight conversion is of fresh ground beef when compared to dried ground beef. I know that some folks dehydrate their own beef. Have you ever weighed it before, and after dehydrating? What does a pound of beef weigh after you remove most of the moisture?

I just did some 91% lean- I ended up with 7oz. for a lb. Pretty much in line with the chart wwbf linked to.

I've never weighed it, come to think of it. I have measured it, but can't recall now what it comes out to. I'll have to re-check that, since it matters (there's the volume/weight raw vs. cooked vs. dried to consider).

I find you lose over half the weight once cooked and dried. Sometimes up to 3/4 the weight.
