OMG, imagine the panic when I found the Backpacker Forum was "archived". How the ____ was I supposed to pick your minds and continue planning the perfect Epic Adventure 2015??!! Thankfully, being fully OCD , I had printed out my old thread and responses, but still my heart was broken and my source of experts gone in a flash. And now my joy is complete! Welcome back and thank you!
So here's my "dilemma":
Looking at a loop from the Lost Creek/Park Trailhead using Wigwam, Goose Creek, McCurdy Park, and Brookside McCurdy Trails - 28 miles and one report on Every Trails said three days. If any of you guys have done this trail I welcome any and all advice, no matter how mundane or ridiculous you may think it is.
Questions: Is three days a realistic time for this trail or would you go four (we are experienced and in good condition but I don't want to rush)? Fav camping spots to recommend? Clockwise or counterclockwise? Plus.....anything else
Thanks in advance! Oh, and double-cabin and overthehill walker, your past advice has been invaluable!

Personally I would not want do 28 miles in three days. When are you planing to do this trip? If you are strong hikers and know you are fine at altitude, maybe three days will work for you. But, as I said, that would not be my choice.

I have to agree with Deborah. Tack on a day to the trip and don't rush through it. Lost Creek is known for it's unique rock formations. The place is very Dr Seuss-ish. And McCurdy Park is a fantastic area to camp and day hike out from there. Bison Peak is nearby and begs to be summitted.
Have a great trip!

Excellent! Thank you two so much! Actually, I suppose you could call it a four day trip since we are going to start out when we arrive and then end not one, or two, but three days later. My bad. Jeff lived in Colorado for eight years and he is a stickler for getting used to altitude. This is our first "mini-adventure" of the Epic Adventure 2015 and is leading up to a loop down in the San Juans. Since we are sleeping in the truck or a tent for the entire 20 days our plans are completely fluid.
We have been looking at Lost Creek since we first met (on-line) ten years ago. So this is kind of a "bucket list" hike for the two of us now - we live in Missouri and it is kind of an Elephant Rocks with an Attitude. Again, if you have anything else to recommend there I will luv you for it!

Eight days. The dehydrator is now running full speed ahead. This is probably the "loosest" itinerary I have ever done. We have ten days worth of truck camping food, ten days worth of backpacking food ready to mix and match. The packs are ready for cold/warm/rain/not rain. It should be fantastic!

Have fun! Be aware that Colorado is getting a lot more rain, this year, than normal. So, bring a roll of quarters for the laundromat.

Deborah, rain? LOL! I just got off the phone with a friend who is 86 and has lived here all his life...he says he has never seen rain like we are having - almost every day for weeks. Torrential thunderstorms, we haven't slept for nights because the dogs (high spirited English Setters to begin with) are going crazy. Limbs are so water logged they are falling off the trees. It is unbelieveable. So, we will feel like we are right at home!

My youngest son and I just did a 4-day loop to Canejos Peak in the South San Juan Wilderness that was filled with rain and hail. You should have a blast.

Today was 98 with the humidity to be expected after almost a month of flooding. Mosquitos are rampant; the mold/fungi/mushrooms are incredible; you can't step outside without your glasses or even contacts fogging. The forecast here for the next fifteen days is in the mid to high 90's and daily "thunderstorms". We still aren't out of tornado season. Heck, as my brother puts it, "We choose to live in Hell." Two years ago 17 straight days were above 100 - we and the dogs moved downstairs because the air conditioning couldn't keep up. Here in Missouri it isn't even August (Hell Month)....
Hail? Rain? The back of the truck just keeps sounding better and better. We will save a fortune in utility bills!
Four more days!
