I've seen a lot of deer driving into Horton Creek campground outside of Bishop at night in winter back when it was open all year. Hundreds of eyes reflected in the headlights.

While it appears tragic, it actually might be a good thing....in parts of Tennessee the herd is becoming over populated and disease spreading through the population. Actually, it's not just Tennessee....but a large part of the NE from what I've read....
Even with very liberal bag limits of 3 does per day, and a fairly liberal hunting season, there's so much posted land that the impact of hunting is becoming marginal.
Still, this is a hard thing to see.

in parts of Tennessee the herd is becoming over populated True for some areas. When I lived in OH and IN the deer populations were large and caused a lot of road accidents and intrusion on urban areas. The sierra has a fair amount of predators in the form of cougars, which pretty much keep the deer population in check. Just speculating, but it may have been a cougar which caused the flight of the deer over the cliff.
