Hey everyone. I was hoping a more traveled hiker could recommend a thru-hike that would take 2-4 months to complete, in a moderately warm place with tropical vegetation and lots of good places to go swimming along the way. Any ideas?

I'm tinking the coastline of Costa Rica? I am not aware of anyplace in the US that offers long hikes with such requirements. Summertime swimming, yes (frequent? Doubtful!) Vegetation more likely conifers (if that) in the high mountains. Several places for a few months on a long trail, but you'll need to modify your wish list a bit. Do you expect this to be a solo trip? What support would you expect (meaning resupply, etc.) Maybe we can offer better ideas if we knew how flexible you are with planning!

There's always the Florida Trail. It is currently 1000 miles of moderate difficulty. You might have to share some swimming holes with the local fauna, including some that might object to your presence (alligators). Other than the mosquitoes, snakes, and the aforementioned gators, not any real threats. link

Way late, but in case this is useful: you could easily spend 2 months or more traveling around New Zealand and doing a series of “Great Walks”. These are a collection of outstanding hikes in nationally-run lands. I in fact did this myself, a while back. Each hike was usually about four days, then I would return to civilization, reload, and take public transit on to the next one. I was there six weeks, did 5 Great Walks and a lot of general tourist stuff too including New Years Eve In Cathedral Square in Christchurch! I also got in two outfitter kayak camping trips at Abel Tasman and at Doubtful Sound. If you want two to four months of continuous adventure in a great place to visit, you should consider New Zealand from November to March!

Among the places that I have been to, unless Turkey was already given a try, the Lycian Way ("Likya Yolu" in Turkish) is a trail that offers pretty much what requested: amazing nature and landscapes and possibility to swim almost every day in a different location while hiking along. The vegetation is Mediterranean, not tropical, and unless this makes a big difference to the preferences then the Lycian way in Turkey is truly an enjoyable trek. The time to complete it at a steady pace is usually more or less a month - based on what most hikers that I met who completed it told me. But if taken slowly, with the purpose to enjoy at best also the amazing seaside and the beauty of the landscapes, then probably it can take even 2 months to complete it.
