Totally off topic, so I apologize, but I thought some of the folks here might have some recommendations.
I want to buy (preferably) a whirligig of (preferably) one of the WWII bombers. First choice is a B-29, then in order of preference B-17, B-25 or B-24. Alternate choice would be a P-51, of which I've found a number of plans. An equally first choice would be the SR-71.
Background: my father was a flight engineer in a B-29. Meeting someone who's interested in that or other WWII planes brings out a level of interest that really perks him up. He's in a tough rehab situation now, adapting more slowly to home life and the changes the last hospitalization brought. Talking about B-29 configurations and features is a mood booster for him.
Also: a neighbor's DH found a P-51 and what I think is a Stearman whirligig. Dad and I used to admire a bi-plane whirligig and motorcycle whirligig at a home on our route to the hospital and some of his physicians. We've talked about getting whirligigs for his yard, but I never got around to it.
So I want to get one, or two, preferably fully assembled, but I could assembly from a kit if necessary. I prefer not to have to assembly one b/c I want to get it up and out in the yard quickly, so he can admire it when he's ready to walk outside.
I've found B-17G (http://www.meiselwoodhobby.com/Products/ViewProduct.aspx?ID=42978&Path=41432), several P-51s, and an assortment of other warbirds. I'd really like a B-29 though.
The ones our neighbor has are like regular model planes except that the propellers are wind spinners; they're not the flat apparently single dimension like the B-17G in the link.
So, does anyone know of a source to purchase a fully assembled (or alternately a kit) B-29 whirligig? I haven't tried military catalogues yet, nor have I tried the Army-Navy surplus stores although I wouldn't really expect to find any small model planes there.
Thanks for any suggestions.
