There's only one WWII vet left in my family. He was POW in Italy after being shot down. He's 94 with just one lung and an artificial knee and is gradually falling into the pit of dementia. He's still quite a guy. He was a huge lover hiking from the moment he returned from the war.

Yes, the greatest are gone and going fast. Explains a lot that passes for "freedom" today.

My father was one of those that landed at Normandy on Omaha Beach. He was just 20 years old when he walked ashore. He died on May 25 of this year, at the age of 93. I have his Good Conduct Medal, which is one of my prized possessions.
