Since I doubt any of us were on the trail at the time, what is it you hope to accomplish with these notices? Fatalities take place every year, back country or front. Drownings in Yosemite rivers is all too common. Maybe you are hoping that posting these reports here will prevent one of us from falling victim.
I understand posting missing hiker reports where some hope of rescue is still possible. Maybe one of us will be in the search area soon. However, in cases like this where it is a body recovery, I see no benefit.
Every single one of your posts to this forum has been about some SAR effort near Yosemite or out of the Bishop area. Not much of a contribution to the community.

Hi Zeke,
You may doubt it, but there has been a lot of helpful feedback from the outdoor communities in SAR cases. The goal of these posts is to reach the very people who spend the most time outdoors, that may have some information or input in an on-going case, which can then be passed on to the incident commander in the field, there have been cases in the past, where backpackers/climbers have been asked for input on cases. I have been placed on the NP and some of the Co Sheriff's alert systems, to get the word out to our outdoor communities in case of a missing person, which is what is being done here. It may not seem much of a contribution to you Zeke, but to me, anytime we have the opportunity to assist in getting a fellow hiker/backpacker/climber back home to their family, makes it well worth the time and effort.
Cheers

Last year, 2016, my wife and I hiked up to Lake Everly and tried to summit Mt. Plummer. Along the way we found a NOAA balloon and some garbage. We hiked out with the NOAA balloon and the garbage. We were out for 6 days with 2 days spent at the trailhead. All that time a car was parked at the trailhead. We wrote down the license number and reported it to a ranger station. We thought that was a long time for someone to had been out. Turns out the car belonged to a missing backpacker. The backpacker had been missing for a few weeks and his car was a long way from where he told his family he was going to go backpacking. When we got home, my wife posted of the trip, in her BLOG, and posted pictures of the garbage we had found. The family of the missing backpacker contacted us to ask about the details of our trip and to find out if we still had the garbage. My wife had not thrown out a faded brown rag. I do not have the words or know the way to explain the reaction of the family when we handed over the rag. Anyway, besides wishing that mav would post more than a link, I feel there is good value in knowing when and where a hiker has been lost.

Hi Ohm,
Thanks for sharing your experience Ohm!
The reason for posting only a link, is to have any feedback/update in one centralized location, SAR/NPS does not have time to check or post in numerous forums.

This certainly makes sense, but a link posted with no content or context feels like click-bait. It would be more useful to provide basic info here (region) so those in the area can click through for more info!

Like I said, lost hiker, sure. Body recovery like this latest one, not so sure. The officials are looking for people who might've witnessed the fall. Since you have been tasked with this, how about you posting them to the California section where it will be seen by those who are in that area most.

Some people, like me, never go to the California section.
