I like Black Walnut, but the store carries it very infrequently any more. Oh, yeah. Keep your ambrosia and pass the Blue Bell Black Walnut! Yeppers, you got it nailed.

I once pondered can you bring ice cream backpacking in the heat of summer? I then packed some Cherry Garcia in dry ice in a soft cooler. My companions were very impressed with their surprise dessert.

Death by Chocolate. With Hershey chocolate syrup. I knew I liked you. Only I make my own (dark) chocolate syrup to put on my chocolate ice cream.

I blame on my truck for turning in. Cars have a way of choosing their own favorite ice cream or dairy queen place as well. Just can't control them when they want me to have a cold frozen treat. If I resisted, my car might be offended and not start the next day. My favorite ice creams: Mackinac Island Fudge, Black Cherry, Mint chocolate chip, and of course homemade ice cream, which we haven't made for several years now. rebeccad, care to share your dark chocolate syrup? I hate the commercial ones; they just don't have a natural flavor.

rebeccad , thanks so much! I like "super easy" recipes. I'm thinking that I might substitute Maraschino cherry juice (love that fragrance!) for the water. This might also be a good syrup for a plain cake, such as a pound cake. Uh, oh, better get my mind off the chocolate and baked goodies before I end up in a baking frenzy. cgaphiker , are you aware that there was a tv cooking program by that name? It was hosted by Marcel Saulniers. I copied most of the recipes watching the show decades ago but fortunately have misplaced them or I'd be on a constant chocolate high. For background on Marcel, see: www.dailypress.com/entertainment/food/For a chance to glimpse the recipe for his famous Death by Chocolate cake, marshal your resistance and see: www.theslowroasteditalian.com/2011/09/death-by-chocolate-cake.html

You can make it a bit richer by stirring in some cream. And I use it more to pour over my chocolate "Crazy Cake" than to put on ice cream.

I like chocolate ice cream cones. They rock in the summer heat.

Maybe the best thing about Texas -- Blue Bell ice cream. Any flavor. I do not stock it regularly because that's just asking for trouble.
Probably my favorite (though not Blue Bell) is rum cherry from the Nelson Cheese Factory in Nelson WI. Yum.

A shop in Old Towne Orange, CA called La Minute makes nitrogen ice cream to order - very noisy process, but wonderfully textured and tasty result. My favorite is plain old vanilla that is drizzled with a quality olive oil. Simply delicious!

drizzled with a quality olive oil. Now that is a topping I would have never thought of.
