Driving is so last year; here is a helicopter trip up the road to the pass into Yosemite: Video
Even now, reports of snow depth along some roads in the Tahoe area are up to 12+ feet. That would be an interesting drive. I'd imagine some trails will not be open until August!

I liked trying to find the Entrance Building before they zoomed in.

thanks for posting that link bp2go Very familiar with where the highway always was during the video. Rather dangerous for those doing the work. Will be rather interesting watching web boards in the coming period as people without planning skills used to backpacking into usual destinations early season are blocked by this winter's deep snowpack. On another board I've set up a short leisurely 3-day (small) group backpack out of the Hetch Hetchy zone to an off trail location on a large creek with bedrock cascades that almost no others venture into. It is all below the 6000 foot elevation thus will not have any snow. It is rarely visited because during summer the area is baking in sun off trail and some brush. However late May thru early June this year will be green and flowery. Dates TBD depending on inputs from others over next couple weeks. Any interested, send me a PM and will include on email list.
