Just introducing myself.
I've been fishing, camping and hunting most of my life and have always day dreamed of backpacking. Surprising enough now that I have a family it seems that I finally have the time to do some backpacking.
I live in Milwaukee will probably only be hitting the Ice Age Trail. I love forums, the discussions, sharing ideas and even the debates.
So....hello.

Greeting tweed. Good alias, it has 'weed' in it. C-ya between the peaks.

Welcome from PA. Living up in the north central part of the country, you could certainly combine backpacking and fishing!
Hope you find the place useful.

Welcome! I hope you will be taking that family along at least some of the time--nothing like the trail for kids.

I'll second the backpack/fishing connection. Backcountry lakes and streams are great destinations! Welcome.

Fishing...What type of pole do you carry? One of those telescopic ones? I'm leaving tomorrow for a few days to go to northern WI and plan on bringing some gear.

I've always used multi-piece rods strapped outside my pack. Good luck hiking and fishing! Let us know how you did. By the way, my avatar picture is from the natural bridge on Volcano Creek in the Sierra. It was a trip in to the last place to catch pure strain Golden Trout.

I have a telescoping 5wt fly rod and a small 4 piece spin rod that I've carried. Depends on where and what I'm fishing for.
The fly rod is not great but it works and is light. The spin rod is ok, but pretty small (only 5 ft).
