A couple of "facts of life" were reinforced to me this weekend during the folk music festival in Tucson.
1) The musician always get the girl.
2) Buy a girl a drink and she goes home with the other guy makes you a chump. Do it again with the same girl makes you a fool.
Guys, we've all been a chump at some point in our life. I've always avoided being the fool.
Anyone want to share some obvious truths they've lived through?

So, you're saying drummers aren't musicians?

Marry the psycho witch and you can expect pain and destruction in your life. Been there. Done that. But, I got over it pretty quick. All it cost me was time and grief. Been a bachelor for 22 years now and happy as a clam.

You can't learn something you think you already know (my favorite).
Jazz is just blues with all the soul sucked out.
Brevity is the essence of wisdom (W. Shakespeare).

Well, maybe I'll say... If the guy whines while backpacking, dump him.
Which I did. And found one who can hike me into the ground.

Drummers are not musicians. Percussionists are musicians, Some drummers are percussionists.

Drummers are not musicians. Percussionists are musicians, Some drummers are percussionists. Drummers seem greatly over-represented in musician jokes. What do you call a guy who hangs out with musicians? (A drummer). My truism is that if you don't know who the sucker is in a given deal, it's you. Always look under the hood.

If you're wondering how long a new task will take, don't forget to apply an incompetence multiplier of 1.5 and an LWF (lying weasel factor) of 6.3.

Goes along with my dad's rule for making a construction estimate (time or money): do all the math for a precise quote. Then double it and add a third. He *sometimes* managed to make money

Self confidence will go a long way towards achievement. Lack of confidence will only make failure easier.

It's Dilbert, but it seems to apply everywhere. Especially if there's something at home that will be a "quick" fix. lol

You start life with a bag full of luck and an empty sack of experience. The trick in life is to fill the experience sack before you empty the luck bag. Corollary 1: good judgment comes from experience. Unfortunately, experience usually comes from bad judgment. Corollary 2: Learn from the mistakes of others. You won't live long enough to make them all yourself.
Only two bad things can happen to you: 1. You wake up knowing this is your last day. 2. You wake up not knowing this is your last day.
Nothing is more useless than the altitude above you, the runway behind you, and a tenth of a second ago. There are three simple rules for making a consistently smooth landing. Sadly, no one knows what they are. The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire. Takeoffs are optional. Landings are mandatory. It's always better to be down here wishing you were up there, than up there, wishing you were down here. In a two-seat aircraft, the other seat is always occupied by an idiot trying to kill you.
