In the old days, they would periodically sacrifice a virgin to keep the volcano gods happy. Think she qualifies?

Only one way to find out...push her in and see what happens.

I don't see this so much of a freedom of expression issue as a lack of respect and good taste. How does being naked enhance her "freedom and empowerment"? Some people just have no class at all.

How does being naked enhance her "freedom and empowerment"? I think this question deserves further investigation:

I'm afraid not. It's all about "me", and my facebook/instagram/twitter account. I'm not sure exactly when the world went to hell, but I'm damn sure it started in my lifetime. The internet and cell phones have really made anything resembling manners, courtesy, and respect "so 20th century". It's awful.

Only one way to find out...push her in and see what happens. She might be a witch, in which case she is made of wood and would thus ignite. Or they could throw her in the ocean and see if she floats.

Does anybody read Playboy anymore since they started wearing clothes?

Honestly, I can see both sides of the issue. There's nothing inherently disrespectful or "profane" about being nude. I've seen a couple of the pics, and there's nothing overtly sexual or "dirty" about them: she's just standing there nude.
If people are allowed to visit that summit, generally, and if this is NOT considered disrespectful by the Maori, then I'm not really sure what about her being naked makes it so much worse.
I generally agree that people should be respectful of others' cultural/religious traditions to the extent possible, but this doesn't seem like a black and white case to me.

Meh. A few photons were captured on camera. Better than leaving trash all over the place.

From what I read most Maori don't go up there out of respect. They put up with people going up there but maybe their issue is just publicized pictures of people up there no matter how they are dressed. The mountain is also considered a man and a picture that so strongly shows a woman conquering him might not be cool either. Here's a quote from an interesting article: In Māori culture, female genital exposure was considered indecent, though women would sometimes deliberately expose themselves through whakapohane intended to ridicule or insult those witnessing it. There are early examples of European visitors who described what they thought were lascivious gestures on the part of Māori women exposing themselves to the newcomers, when it fact they were demonstrating not arousal but contempt.
On the other hand it was perfectly natural for women to remain naked above the waste, especially in hot conditions or when working or dancing. Under the influence of the missionaries that eventually changed. By 1840 it was said to be fashionable for young Māori women in the Bay of Islands to cover their breasts in the European manner, though this new trend was fiercely resisted by older women and it took some time before it became standard.
So I guess her exposing her genitals to the mountain would be a sign of contempt?

Or they could throw her in the ocean and see if she floats. IF they don't have a duck handy for a weight comparison.
