I had no more luck than anyone else, I suspect, finding that snake in the picture. I'll admit I only found it with the guidance to the middle of the photo.

Actually it is a bit deceptive trying to find them in a photograph. In real life, most snakes are actually moving, albeit sometimes very slowly, which helps seeing them. Of course you have to be looking where they are to see the movement. We aren't as bad at finding them as this photo might make you think, especially if you have seen snakes before. Rumi

In real life, most snakes are actually moving, albeit sometimes very slowly, which helps seeing them I was thinking of that. Anything moving is easier to see than holding still, so maybe it's only those lazy copperheads that are really hard to see

I thought a bit about snakes last week. Every patch of sandy trail and campsite was covered with snake tracks. It was so windy that even human tracks got quickly erased, so they were all generally a few hours old or less. Even so, I never saw a single snake.

Aren't there snake chaps as well? Like gaiters but tougher?
