Got out. Drizzle. NE MO. Off trail at a local conservation area. Looking for spring flowers. Spring beauties are starting to get good. Meandered through the woods. Preferred off trail with its leaf cover due to muddy condition on trails. Came to a north overlook at a wet lands. We call it coot song swamp because of a musical event of coots a few years ago. Heptica. what we came for. Ah! Lots in white and violets. Lunch time. A bit of cheeze, a protein bar, some junk chips. Sit long enough for the birds to return. Moving on we venture down a small hill to visit Rock. Rock is a rock we have come to know. Several years ago he stood large and solid. Time changed Rock. Now he is smaller as a result of stream debris. Today, as with the last couple of years, he seems even smaller decorated with moss and spring. Around Rock spring cress is becoming numerous and the first few butter cups are blooming. We move on up a small hill. Rain. Rain got serious. Rain jackerts help, but our pants are soaked. OK. So. Warm enough not to matter. Fifty. Hike on. Rain is a good dimension. Sounds.Eventually we get back to the car. Good hike. Found some flowers, heard some bird sounds, felt the weather.

Nice story, thanks for sharing. In sunny So Cal, our local hike has some great blooms going right now. The California poppies are still good in places, but less than a few weeks past. Several varieties of phacelia are blooming with purple specimens being most showy. One of my favorite flowers, the Mariposa lily is having the best bloom I've ever seen in the 19 years my wife and I have been hiking this particular trail. One downside, the non-native, invasive mustard is having a banner year, in places already up to 10 feet high and choking the trail.
