Hungry Jack We haven't been here long. This will be our second full summer. I must say, it is AMAZING what a that little bit of moisture made! Last summer (our first SoCal hiking experience) every trail was bone dry, brown, and dead. The first question any through hiker asked, when we ran into them, was, "how far until water?". This spring, everything is beautiful and green! Some trails here in Orange County almost remind me of hiking in Hawaii!

bluefish Sounds like a great time! We have actually been very grateful for the snow! it has brought mountaineering to Southern Californians, rather than us having to go the mountaineering! We actually got to climb the Baldy Bowl last week, which was an AMAZING experience!

Lamebeaver We would really like to, unfortunately, my wife typically only gets one day off per week, and doesn't get off until 10pm. We have been able to get away for overnighters a few times, on rare occasions when she gets off a bit earlier the day before an off day. We actually got to go to Joshua Tree and camp this weekend. You are right though, just these few overnighters (usually just car camping) have shown us more than a few things, and it would be very nice if we could manage to get away for a couple of short back packing trips before then. Here's to hoping!

catonsvillebill That is an awesome idea! I will definitely pick a few to follow this season, as well as go back and read Airlock's! Thank you so much for the tip!
