Fred's legendary. On the old board I posted a good video of him. I'll have to search for it again.

The Beckey guides were the bible when I was learning to peak-bag in Washington.

Here 'tis. Note that he was 89 when the video was filmed in 2013. Eighty nine. Later that year he turned 90. He's now 94.
"Good job, Fred."

Bump for the video, Dirtbag.
Dig the video at 1:35 of him coming out of a prohibited area.
An idiot savant.
He became a culture of one.
I suppose you could say he's like, the Bob Dylan of mountain climbing. All these great achievements, but completely inscrutable, and no one's really sure if they even like him or not.
He's a dirtbag. And because of that, I don't think he'll get the recognition he really deserves. - Yvon Chouinard
He was the first dirtbag I ever knew. - Yvon Chouinard
In 1942 he and his brother, both teenagers still in high school, made the first (1 1/2 month) ascent of Mount Waddington. It wasn't climbed again for another 35 years.
He burned through women like a gypsy went through horses.
Do you think you'll ever get married? Yeah, sometime I should. I should try it out. What would be the perfect... I dunno.
Why do you make your grandpa sleep in the driveway?
Did ya ever study writing techniques? No, believe it I or not never did. Really? Never took a fuckin' course. I think taking a writing course would just Bugger me up totally.

Have heard of him but know little about him beyond his legendary status among alpinists.
Funny thing to me is that his name is very similar to Fred Beck, another Wasington man whose claim to fame was being attacked in Ape Canyon near St Helens by a group of Bigfoot. But this was in 1924, a bit before Beckey's time.
