We are heading to Denver at the end of the week for an extra long weekend. We are looking for must see places and great restaurants. We are adventurous eaters and love microbreweries. We have a few ideas of places to go, but I'd rather hear from locals of what to do. Outdoor activities is not in our to-do list, as my husband isn't much for outdoorsy activities, but all other activities are welcome.

We always visit the Museum of Natural History. And if you're into zoos, it's right next door. We always enjoyed taking the kids there when they were still kids.

If you're a fan of the show Diners, Drive-ins and Dives there are a lot of Denver restaurants on the list, including the Denver Biscuit Company. If you go there on a weekend, go early or expect to wait a bit. I also like Hapa Sushi, where it's almost always happy hour (Try the taro poke with tuna). I'll second the Museum of Nature and Science. The Denver Art Museum is Free on Saturday, which means it will be busy. For a short hike near Denver, I like Dinosaur Ridge. You can park at the bottom of the hill hand hike up to the dinoasur tracks viewing area. There's also a short trail that hikes along the ridge, which is generally free of snow at this time of year. Red Rocks Park (also good for hiking is just on the other side of the valley, and the Morrison Inn has good margaritas. Arvada has a kite festival that weekend. If you're downtown, The infinite Monkey Theorem does wine tasting, as does Balistreri Vineyards. Stranahan's (whiskey) also does a nice tour. If you like Vietnamese food, Saigon Basil in Thronton is VERY good. There are ton's of good micro breweries all over the place, including The Dry Dock (my favorite) in Aurora, and The Wynkoop and Rock Bottom downtown.

I ate here last weekend. It was wonderful. www.cho77.com/The Buckhorn Exchange is an experience. buckhorn.com/ I believe they have the first liquor license that was issued in CO. What types of things are you interested in?

I was in the area about a year and half ago. Somewhere between Denver and Mt Evans we found a great little brew pub. I would guess it was in Idaho Springs. It's a drive away, but a drive through the mountains.

I'm up for pretty much anything. When it comes to food, we like unique.
Rock Bottom is on our short list. I suspect we'll end up at Lone Tree also. We're not THAT picky with beer, but he loves hoppy stuff and sours.
As for the rest of the family, it's hit or miss. We do want to go to Red Rocks, and Dinosaur Ridge sounds neat. My son and I both love museums. The other two, not so much. We'll be staying downtown at Hilton Garden Inn for one night, then spending the weekend with friends at their house. I know they plan to show us around, but I'm not sure where.
I hear there could be a nice snowstorm there this weekend. I just hope it doesn't keep us indoors the whole weekend. We fly back on Monday.

When it comes to food, we like unique. Be sure to take some photos of the restaurants you liked. Do a small write up and put it in the Food Talk thread. Have fun in Denver.

Somewhere between Denver and Mt Evans we found a great little brew pub. I would guess it was in Idaho Springs. I am going to guess that you stopped at The Tommyknocker. Mt. Evans is a great loop drive (Evergreen parkway to Squaw Pass Road to Echo Lake, then continue on to Idaho Springs). Unfortunately the spur road to Mt. Evans is still closed. It's really too early to tell on the snow. They have a hard time accurately predicting the weather a couple days in advance. It's also easy to get around downtown in any weather. Walk 1 1/2 blocks to 16th street and take the free mall shuttle.

Oh fun! I haven't explored our town nearly enough. I'd like a tour guide! I do love the Museum of Natural History, I haven't been to the Art Museum yet, but it is on my short list. The Botanic Gardens are fantastic when they are in bloom (probably too early for that) and at Christmas (too late for that). Deborah, LittleMountainGirl and I ate at Wynkoop Brewing last August'ish? I really liked that place. And of course, there is the REI Flagship store that you'll need to visit. Whatever you decide to do, I hope the weather holds out for you! We live in the foothills, and unless the storm goes north or south of us, I think we're going to get pounded. I am totally not complaining, we need the moisture badly. As long as our flights leave as scheduled on 4/6 from DIA, I'm good with it. :D

The natural history museum is great. My favorite breweries are: crooked stave, great divide, & Avery (actually in Boulder). Avery has fantastic food as well. A concert at Red Rocks Aphetheatre if you are into music.

An hour away in Colorado Springs: Air Force Academy Garden of the Gods Manitou Cliff Dwellings Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame I assume the road and cog rail up Pikes Peak is closed at this time of year. You could try to break into Cheyenne Mountain. he loves hoppy stuff and sours He could get some Coors Light straight from the tap in Golden! LOL!

Yes, the road and rail are closed to Pike's Peak this time of year. I'd love to take trip to Colorado Springs. A good friend of mine lives there, so I may take a side trip if the family is okay with it.
As for the Coors Light comment, I'll just pretend you never spoke those words.

Or go to that restaurant in Golden that has Adolphus Coors recipe, he brought from Germany, on tap. It is only available there and maybe one other local place. The restaurant in Golden is in the building that was their origional courthouse.
