Last night my wife and I went out to dinner. Turned out it was prom night for two of the high schools in town. Man, I'm glad I don't have to deal with that kind of stuff anymore.

I took the prettiest girl in school to my senior prom - she was the most talented musician, too. So no bad memories there. I'm generally a weirdo, in that I had a great time in high school. Good friends, good teachers, no bullying/fighting/etc. I had to enter the workforce to experience bullying & adolescent behavior. Now I start & run my own businesses, to avoid that. An advantage of aging - experience, and controlling what you will tolerate.

So no bad memories there. I've got to talk to your date before I accept that statement. Like you, high school was an overwhelmingly positive experience for me, except for Chemistry. Never did get that stuff. Gas laws and all that, you know. Even prom was sort of good, I guess although she later dumped me. Her loss. College too, was good and actually so was my career.

Man, I went to a lot of proms. Nope, not so many as a strapling youth who knew everything, but as a former teacher and administrator who knew nothing according to some. Always the same joys, issues and dramas. Every year. Just different faces. Ha! The most dreaded day/evening of many a year. But, also a good one that kept me young. High school for me was good. A little to much stress due to sports participation, but good. College was a toy.

I was a bit of a social outcast/misfit in high school, but had some close friends and we had a great time together and overall high school was a positive experience for me. I'm still friends with a few of those high school friends. College was great for me. It was a military school, so stressful but I really enjoyed it. But I agree I'm glad I don't have to do the whole prom thing ever again.

Never went to prom or any formal dances. Mostly stayed away from the Friday-after-the-football-game dances, too. High school wasn't an awful experience for me (unlike Jr. High, which was awful), but I will say that adulthood has been better.

Only one more. My youngest is graduating this spring. Mine too. And I'm wondering if we might be facing our first ever prom, since he socializes a lot with the girls. His brother had no interest in going, but this one...could be different.

I don't have many bad memories, but that's one of them. I'm glad it's far, far behind me.

I never went to any proms or dances. I was a misfit in High School. Very, very shy. So, glad all of that is over.

The USNA "Ring Dance" is essentially a college-level prom. It was nerve racking (in some ways more so than high school prom), but a LOT of fun.

The USNA "Ring Dance" is essentially a college-level prom. It was nerve racking (in some ways more so than high school prom), but a LOT of fun. The military balls I attended were all nerve wracking and not fun; I eventually stopped bringing a date because they had less fun than me. But it was always amusing to see the invite start off with "You are cordially commanded to attend...". As for my high school senior prom, I just want to try to remember why I thought that ghastly grey tux was a good look.

The only advantage I can think of is grandkids.
Having a little more disposable income helps soften the blow.
