Did an overnighter on the Elk River Trail in SE Kansas. It was nice--definitely worth the 3 hour drive from home. I even found a camp with a (barely) running stream, which was a real find because it's been very dry here, and I would have had to filter silty reservoir water if I hadn't found this source. This is widely regarded as the best trail in Kansas--I'll post some pics and more of a report tomorrow.

Good for you. I'm a bit jealous. I won't get my first night until next month. I'm looking forward to the pics.

Way to go man. Do you not have to filter the creek water?

Way to go man. Do you not have to filter the creek water? Oh yeah--I filtered it for sure. I was just happy to have a clearer source than the silty reservoir water. I guess I'm spoiled as almost all of my hiking is in the mountain high country where I probably could drink the water untreated if I chose to. (I don't.) I didn't want to think too much about how much agricultural runoff was probably in the creek I took water from. But the water was quite clear and it tasted fine.
