We've moved yet again, but this time hopefully we'll stay for a while! I got a sweet promotion into a job that I've been working towards pretty much since I left college. We are currently living near Lake Shasta and are in escrow for a home nearby as well. As soon as the moving dust settles I hope to go out hiking - this is an amazing area surrounded on 3 sides by mountains that I've barely started to explore! I want to check out the Trinity Alps and Lassen and Redwood NP's for sure. Anyway, holler if you're in the area and want to explore

Congrats on the successful career climb! Time to finally put down some roots. That is certainly a fine region of low density population with excellent physical features in all directions.
Mid to late May the Redwood NP coast black sand beaches have lots of wildflowers including tasty wild strawberries.
Late March the best wildflowers in your new region is probably North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve. This year that zone has been drenched. Peak bloom for species mix with best color per below lasts just a few days.

A long drive like the one you will do for the eclipse but one of your favorites, Carrizo Plain NM, is now certain to bloom big as so far this rainy season has recorded 7.6 inches with 2 rainy months to go. Note the biggest year 2006 had 10 inches.

Congratulations,I look forward to the trail reports.I have been intrigued by that area ever since some of the reports and bragging by the ultralight firefighter who pissed everyone off by claiming they weren't ultralight

Moved to the state of Jefferson, huh? I really like northern California. My son spent a summer as a wilderness ranger in the Trinity Alps two yeara ago and had good things to say about them. Very similar to the Beartooths apparently, only a little drier. Maybe that will change this year. At any rate, welcome back.

PAO! So far we're loving it up here. There's been a ton of rain this year so it's very green and pretty out. We bought a home on a bubbling creek and have room for guests if anyone wants to camp out and listen to its delightful music all night long. There are tons of trails so very close to home. So far we've hiked the Bailey Cove Trail (easy 3 miles and beautiful in the spring), Phantom Falls at Table Mountain (must-see for spring wildflowers), and Boulder Creek Falls at Whiskeytown NRA (tons of other trails here and so close to home!) Pics are here www.tarol.com/

Don't forget to get to Burney Falls...one of the best waterfalls anywhere. (This coming from a person who just returned from fabulous Silver Falls State Park in Oregon...plus Phantom, Little Phantom and Ravine Falls...)
Next up...the falls in Yosemite Valley
