My Wife Alisha and I wanted to do a nice trip for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. I'd heard good things about Evolution Valley, so we decided on this trip. This semi-loop starts at South Lake near Bishop California, and ends about 10 miles away at North Lake. We went clockwise, but nearly everyone else went in the other direction. We flew into Vegas because it was cheap and we stayed 2 nights at Parcher's resort to get used to the altitude.

The next day we started our hike for real. With our packs loaded with 6 days of food we headed up the Bishop Pass Trail. Looking back towards Spearhead and Long Lakes: P9070291 by richglasgow63, on Flickr Looking back at the switchbacks heading up the pass: P9070296 by richglasgow63, on Flickr

We camped for the night at Le Conte Canyon, there were plenty of people around, but we were done after a long day of hiking and just didn't care. We shared a site with a guy we kept leapfrogging all the way down from the pass, he was one of those people that you instantly like and can talk to all day long. He'd done this hike before and was helpful in planning what to do. After breakfast we started up out of the Canyon and up towards Muir Pass. This would be one of our toughest days, with around 3,300 feet of climbing. Nice TR talus. Thanks for posting it. It has been a long time since I hiked that trail. Forgot how beautiful it is.

This was our third day, and it was time for a bit of a break. We decided to climb up to Darwin Bench and spend a lazy half day up there. After two straight days of climbing over passes, we wanted a break. This is a vacation, right? We took the cairned turn off and started climbing up to the bench: P9090426 by richglasgow63, on Flickr Non-stop views on the bench: P9090435 by richglasgow63, on Flickr P9090439 by richglasgow63, on Flickr Campsite with convenient wind break: P9090440 by richglasgow63, on Flickr Mountain Drama: P9090443 by richglasgow63, on Flickr My Wife in her jaunty thrift store cap: P9090454 by richglasgow63, on Flickr
