I know we have bloggers, novelists, cookbook authors, and journalists. Yes, I like to mention my books sometimes, but I also love to hear what other people are up to, or share success and frustrations with others on here. I've read RebeccaD's books and some of the recipe's from others and I've gotten a few good reviews of my books, but I don't want to spam the other threads and sound like a total saleswoman so maybe one dedicated thread could keep us all able to talk without annoying those who don't want to keep hearing about, "My project"

Didn't know you were a writer--what have you written? I love writing, and love language, but have never actually written anything for broader consumption. I am a priest, so I do a fair amount of writing in that capacity--sermons, articles, etc. I would like to get more serious about writing, will probably start a blog soon, and perhaps even think about writing a book one day. I just finished reading If You Want to Write by Brenda Ueland, which further inspired me to pursue the craft of writing.

Echo has 3 children's books out (I think I have that right!) and 2 picture books, under her real name. I write for kids and adults, sometimes in different books. I also write a blog that focuses on book reviews and flash fiction (pretty much a story every Friday), at www.ninjalibrarian.comI might actually go so far as to get specific about one book. It's a picture book I wrote for people here who hike with their kids (or who want to and wonder if they can). Let's see if I can link the cover....

+1 for RebeccaD's book A is for Alpine. I got a copy from her when she visited Tucson for the book festival. I asked her to sign it and gave it to a friend whit kids who are at the right age for the book. The father says it's his 4 year old daughter's favorite "go to " book. The family is outdoor oriented.

I recently wrote a book about my travels through many of the National Parks of the West, titled The Adventures of a Day Hiker: An Exploration of America's National Parks. It's kind of like a large collection of trip reports. It's mostly stories of the hikes I've done in the parks, but touches on pretty much all of my experiences there. If anyone feels like checking it out I'd like to know what you think of it. The Adventures of a Day Hiker: An Exploration of America's National Parks by Matthew Wakelee

I will try to check it out (when I get out from under my current pile of reading obligations).

Cheryl Strayed is a capable writer and as I finished the first few chapters I became a fan. I began recommending the book to my friends and family. Her description of her mother dying of cancer was beautifully written and hit like a gut punch. I thought, wow, this writer has potential.

Sorry, I started this thread and then three days later left to go to a family reunion in Wyoming. I do have two picture books, one about colors and one that is a lullaby with fingerpainted illustrations. The three novels I have are not really kid books, more young adult or middle grade. One is Double Time on The Oregon Trail, about two girls traveling 102 years apart but using the same lap desk and sometimes opening it at similar places to see the other girl's journal and possessions. The other two are about a young boy with cerebral palsy who survives a school shooting that injured his sister and ends up on Narnian/Oz/neverland type other world adventures. So if you are interested, echo is Dixie Dawn Miller Goode and my Amazon link is www.amazon.com/Dixie-Dawn-Miller-Goode/e/B004458ES2

I've written natural history articles that were published in a local newspaper Southern Sierra Messenger - they're also on my website www.tarol.com - mostly about trees and wildflowers and whatnot For work I write content for our forest website, publications, social media, InciWeb, news releases, etc. - www.fs.usda.gov/sbnfMy sister does similar work for the Nature Conservancy in California - and on her own time she's written many short stories and poems - here is her blog www.owensrivergirl.com

I do have a blog but I don't add to it for any particular audience. Just for myself and if someone gets value of out it then that's a bonus. I have a whole bunch of partially finished entries.

Wondermonkey: #1 piece of writing advice from highly prolific (and profane) writer Chuck Wendig: "Finish your sh*t." I have that posted on my wall, along with a few other inspirational sayings from him. I even bought the coffee cup (just, you know, to support an author who is supporting his family through his work. Not to be self-indulgent or anything). Anyway--finish your posts and share.

rebeccad you are quite right! I find myself with ideas for post and I make a stub for it but then move on with good intentions.
