Someone of you will know more than I do about Photobucket and can tell me what I'm doing wrong.
I upload a picture to PB, edit a bit--say, crop it--save it with the "replace the original" option, and copy the linking info. Paste it in here, and bingo!--I get the original image. WTH? What am I missing?
I usually try to do my editing in Lightroom before I upload, but sometimes with older photos scanned from slides, they aren't saved in LR so that's yet another bunch of steps I want to skip. This problem is why I gave up trying to offer photos for the header--I was cropping to the right size, but they were uploading as the original.

they aren't saved in LR ... Why would that require extra steps? I haven't used Lightroom. It's intended for all sorts of handy steps to edit in a non-destructive way, but are you prevented from exporting or saving a result as a plain JPG without some Adobe-required* extension? As for editing and replacing the original: I have certainly had that happen. Saving a tweaked image, then being basically unable to be sure which image in the thumbnail display was my newly edited form! I would link the "right" one and find it was the wrong one. But for me, I finally started adding a frame which help make it clear. *I gave up on Adobe products! Or better said, Adobe gave up on me! I had the Adobe Creative Suite, was happy using it in all forms, and never needed to pay %600 for upgrades from V4. I was doing everything I needed to do, Then they started the subscription service. I didn't need to change anything. Then a few months ago, I bought a new Mac and transferred all my files to it. When I opened Illustrator, I got a message that a tiny file I had never heard of was missing! It was some sort of software version checker, sniffing in the background. Tiny as it was, no replacent was found. I was locked out of $1500 worth of software that had been working just fine on my four-years older Mac, but now I was expected to start subscribing! Not gonna happen. Adobe is now out of my life. This sad little story has nothing to help you, but I had to vent.

Just a thought...I do all my editing in Paint (crop, re-size, contrast, etc) - save... before downloading to PhotoBucket. Then copy link info from PB and post.

Why would that require extra steps? Editing in LR would be extra steps for the photos that haven't been imported to LR. Just a thought...I do all my editing in Paint (crop, re-size, contrast, etc) - save... before downloading to PhotoBucket. That's my preference (except in Lightroom). But I admit that Photobucket is easier to crop to an exact size. Or maybe not. I should experiment more if I can set a custom template. Bet I can... As for editing and replacing the original: I have certainly had that happen. Saving a tweaked image, then being basically unable to be sure which image in the thumbnail display was my newly edited form! That was what I was trying to avoid by using the "replace original" setting. Only one copy (also trying to reduce the number of photos I have stored there, since I'm using the free version with limited storage).

Okay, here's a new Photobucket problem: even though I have my browser set to block pop-ups, etc., when I open PB, it opens a couple of pop-ups or pop-behinds, which suck all the bandwidth, leaving me with a virtually frozen computer. I'm frustrated, because I don't know what else to do to block them. I guess I could pay for the ad-free version of PB, but I'm pretty reluctant to do that. Do I need an add-on ad blocker for this crap?

when I open PB, it opens a couple of pop-ups I just opened Photobucket so I could see if I would have this problem/ It opened as always, I tapped on the Library link and everything worked just fine! So I guess it comes down to the usual questions: what browser, and have you cleared cache and cookies? I really hate clearing all cookies as the easy thing to do. You can search the cookies for Photobucket, find just that one and remove it. Then quit the browser, restart and go back to Photobucket. It creates a new cookie.things might go better. Trying another browser would also be a good idea. I use Safari (also available for a PC), but Chrome is taking over as Google pushes MS off the stage.

Thanks, Steve. That does seem to have helped--no pop-behind (can't figure out why they can override the pop-up blocker, but I don't pretend to understand these things), and faster response. I could change browser, but I like Firefox. Chrome would be okay; I use that at work.
