We're just back from ten days of exploring the desert: Virgin River Gorge, Warner Valley, Whitney Pocket, Red Rock Canyon, and Death Valley. We saw great petroglyphs in four different sites, hiked in a state park, a national monument, a national park, and a natiojnal conservation area. We saw dinosaur tracks and ice age fossils, an abandoned mine and more stunning desert views than you can imagine. We saw wind, rain, sun and snow. And we actually found a way to enjoy Las Vegas. Go figure. For the whole story, you can go here for the last blog report: www.backpackthesierra.com/post/desert-southwest-part-fiveWhich also includes a link to the whole photo blog...as well as the previous four parts of the trip.

We camped at Red Rock SP mid March for three nights. (We checked out Lake Isabella, which neither of us had seen for many years. We started near Jawbone Canyon and took dirt roads, hunting for blooms and ending up there.)
At Texas Springs April 1 and then Valley of Fire for 4 nights. Drove into Gold Butte one of the days and hiked near Little Finland. The road from Whitney Pocket to Mud Wash is extra rough...graded, but so rocky! A few years ago, we pulled out trailer into Whitney Pocket. Never doing that again.)
