Decided to spend my REI dividend (about 50 bucks) to defray the cost of a new pair of these pants. I have an old pair, like them a lot, and figure I’ll wear both frequently.
The new pair arrived today with an unexpected twist - the only issue I’ve ever had with the old pair is an elastic interior drawstring that’s terrible - hard to tie, esp. with cold fingers, and it’s so thin that it won’t hold your pants up anyway. The new pair has a drawstring, but it’s more of a flat shoelace, no stretch. It’s a significant improvement.
I decided to call Patagonia to see if they would send me a replacement drawstring. I’m sure the customer service guy has never gotten that question, but he put in a request and took my contact and mailing info. Bravo. Love their customer service.
Meanwhile, I spent the last 15 minutes threading a length of thin (2.75mm) sterling line (i have a spool of Sterling glocord that I used to make my own guy lines to guy out my tent fly(s) in extra bad weather - sturdy, and the line has reflective threads so you see them with your headlamp instead of tripping over them in the dark) that i cut to size, through the same channel as the reviled stretchy drawstring. Even if Patagonia doesn’t send me a drawstring, which I somehow doubt they provide as a separate thing, at least I’ve figured out a fix for the one improvement I wanted out of these. Only took me eight plus years. Also, if Patagonia does come through with a replacement drawstring, I can now tie it to the cord I just threaded and pull it right through.

Thx for the reminder…! I hate those drawstrings. Both pairs no longer have them as I cut them out.

Patagonia sent me a replacement drawstring. Hasn't arrived yet, but....bravo. love it.
