I was surprised to read Sierra, formerly Sierra Trading Post, opened 17 new stores last year. Plus, they plan on opening 26 new stores this year. We have two Sierra stores in my area. I remember Sierra was more of an online company in the past. Overall, Sierra now has over 90 stores according to the article (about half the number of REI). I see Sierra is affiliated with TJ Maxx and Marshalls. I haven’t been to one of those stores since the late ‘80s. Never really liked them, either. Anyone here been into a Sierra store? How’d you like it? I remember crazy growth with Sportsman’s Warehouse and EMS in the past. Neither, as it turns out, lasted. Perhaps Sierra will have better luck as a discount retailer. thedaily.outdoorretailer.com/news/brands-and-retailers/tjx-ramps-up-sierra-expansion/Happy Trails, DR

Sierra is mainly a discount clothes retailer. They have turned away from camping and outdoor gear to focus as a retail of outdated and discounted clothes. They do carry down jackets that are decent.

I agree with paula53. They changed a lot when TJ Maxx took over.

I visited the local Sierra for the first time a couple weeks ago. Altra & Saucony trail runners were close to half price. I won't disparage them for no longer being a full fledged outdoor store. Other options for that.

A new Sierra opened in our town late last year. It’s pretty heavy on clothing with pretty limited options on actual gear. I will say their prices are really pretty reasonable compared to most other shops if they have what you’re looking for. A lot of my Christmas gifts came from them.

We have had a physical store in Reno for a long time. It used to be great! So much gear with good prices and tons of boots. With two location moves and joining the TJ Maxx group has gradually changed their merchandise offerings and visits there now are usually disappointing.

It looks like a nice store. Regards, DR
