So as always it pays to lurk recreation dot gov’s availability. I grabbed a solo Lyell Canyon entry for August 1 straight off the calendar a couple of minutes ago. I wasn’t even looking for that trailhead but just browsing. Just thinking about locating something for before my lottery submission for the following week.
Just one little “1” in a sea of “W”s as that’s a popular trailhead even for a no Donohue Pass exit (I’m looping by Ireland)
[Just got the confirmation email! I do love selecting off the calendar, control freak that I am]

The next piece: a Wed entry cross country over to Nelson and Reyman Lakes out from the back of Tuolumne Meadows cg, and Elizabeth Lake the new start is out from the Wilderness office area along the JMT since they’re still rebuilding the cg. I’ve been up as far as the crest on flower photo hunts but never further. Any info? I’ll loop out Echo and back over Cathedral I’m thinking as I’d have already gone down Rafferty.
Now to submit myself to the lottery tender mercies instead of availability calendar trolling. Lol
But today (Friday)when they release the weeks unclaimed lottery entries worked great for a less popular choice.

I believe the new Elizabeth Lake trailhead will be from where the gas station used to be. But not while there is construction. That road goes past the construction materials, which are piled up in the group campground. (We walked up there late season after work had stopped.)
Of course you probably know that the store was damaged last year, so it did not open.
I have an interesting area to explore that would come out at Cathedral TH or near, after Echo, depending on the route...

High Sierra Fan Awesome plan! The Tuolumne area is just breathtaking. I'm sure you'll have great hikes no matter which route you take.

So a tale of impulse changes, I had restricted dates to Tuesday to Thursday but looking at it I changed Ten Lakes, my first choice to the full window. And got the Saturday at the end of that window. Gives me some valley time I haven’t had in a while so that’s okay. Yes hikerchick395 I figured some rerouting was going on, I’m figuring on parking at Dog Lake and hit the JMT after the bridge as a hedge in case what I decide is coming out the back of Reyman down Rafferty Creek. That’s always looked like a doable loop.
