I learned the importance of the solar analemma almost 40 years ago when learning to navigate by sun, moon or stars. Of course, it only applies to the sun.
But it means that if you try to adjust your watch so that the sun will be south at noon, you have to first correct for your longitude in the time zone and then apply a further adjustment based upon the analemma. I made my own graph of the time difference, which varies throughout the year, as posted below:

Ah yes, the equation of time. Time gets pretty complicated when you start investigating the details and I have spent too much time on time in various aspects of my job (e.g. a sun position calculator). But timezones (tz, zoneinfo) have got to be the biggest time sink
