As the season approaches weekends & holidays, peak season weekdays as well. They explicitly state they’re controlling the entire park by considering the parking and roadway congestion in the Valley alone which strikes me as terribly lazy. They’d established an east valley access control point last year to manage valley traffic. Why not simply use that as your reservation entry point? Managing the problem area of maybe five square miles and not an entire thousand square mile park. www.nps.gov/yose/index.htm

Entrance time requirements are rather early. If I know the crew at Tioga Pass, it is hard to believe that they will show up every morning at 5am.
That entrance is my only gripe. No spontaneous visits to the high country from the east side.

Yes I’d had better hopes for their approach after last seasons much more directed congestion management via the control point at the valley junction. Their excuse in the FAQ that the overage would spillover to other areas if the park is weak to nonexistent: tourists focused on the valley with a reservation for the valley would simply defer their visitation until the could get to their target locked destination. Despite anything said for the vast majority of tourists the valley IS “Yosemite”; that the park administration is choosing to have that tail wag the dog is pretty lazy. What’s the ratio? A thousand square mile park getting controlled over the parking and roads in maybe 5?..
I’m also a bit more apprehensive for the Wilderness Stewardship plan: will they decide to “manage” the entire area as if it’s Lyell Canyon and Little Yosemite Valley?
