In my post on my new phone’s trials (😊) I stuck a photo of a hotel plaza decorated for the holiday: and it strikes me that could be a fun thread. so I’ll start.
Usung lighting like that to holiday color building details strikes me as new. On a tech note these, while taken with a full frame camera are actually rather tiny image files the camera sends to my iPhone, with location data being added to the file both in my camera from the iPhone and the phone: so I can wander and actually know where I took a particular photo: great stuff, to this techie anyway 😎

With the sun setting around 4:20 PM my area, it's nice to have a few lights around my front porch area when I often get home after dark. LED lights afford plenty of light for little more than the wattage of a night light in the house.
So, this is the only season of the year I put up a few decorations on the front of the house. Mostly they are inspecific to any holiday but simply colored lights outlining the shape of a tree or the porch lines itself. And it's rather entertaining to see what others do with their displays.
I harbor an Inner Scrooge that rebels against many holiday customs, but somehow he allows me this one memory of my childhood to linger and enjoy something in the onset of colder weather.

Indeed, simple outline lights are a classic look. On a road around me there’s a home where I could not see the very large corner front lawn for all the things set out in display, far far too over the top to my taste.

I don't know if it's my inner Scrooge or not, but I believe that it should be dark at night. So I pulled up all of the solar lights and unplugged all of the powered and timed outdoor lights at the new place. I try to temper my fights with a billion years of evolution, at least on a few fronts.
Having said that, holiday lights aren't permanent (usually).
Got a dusting of snow last night. It was a nice, if brief, decoration from Mother Nature. But I didn't take any pics, so I guess it didn't happen.

Indeed. Even that over the top Brooklyn neighborhood reportedly starts turning off the lights around 9 PM.
my own preference leans towards garlands and wreaths of natural materials, so more of a daylight thing. Makes me an odd man out for Longwood: I’ll head there first thing in the morning instead of for the night light show. and lights don’t have that great fresh holiday smell!

Well, as someone who is currently experiencing an allergic reaction to the sap of some English ivy or something similar I started to kill, I would suggest that one NOT make a wreath or garland of it, at least if the interior of a thick vine is exposed, from which you can come into contact with the sap. You may be OK with just the leaves and thin stalks.
Darn invasive species.
Prednisone to the rescue.

A friend once weed whacked a big clump of poison ivy.
Vegetarians that chant plants are our friends have no clue.
ETA: On a serious note? Burning a pile of leaves that has poison ivy mixed in can kill you were you to breath in enough of the smoke containing the volatilised oils. Picture that allergic rash, except on the inside surfaces of your lungs.

Outdoor lights come on at dusk (okay, some days they come on at one or two in the afternoon; this is Seattle) and go off around 9. Indoor lights we leave on until late, at my daughter’s request—she stays up late and likes to see them whens she comes out to the kitchen for the midnight snack.
