Every so often I run into someone wearing a Mammut jacket. Every time the jacket catches my eye and seems to be a well-made product. I also occasionally see someone wearing their shoe/boots. I don’t see a lot of their gear in the outdoor shops, though. Anyone here have and like their gear/apparel? How is it in terms of quality? Good company? Swiss I believe. I see REI has some of their jackets online. Pricey, too. Are they known for their down gear? Thx.
Happy Trails,
DR

They're big in Europe. I've seen a fair amount of Mammut gear in various places, from in shops to on the trail. Everything I've seen looked very well made and generally aimed for high performance with light (but not ultralight) weight.

I’ve a mountain parka of their’s that’s the equal of my sturdier Patagonia parkas. They seem to be more focused on Europe, although it may just be US distributors are more focused on US brands as I don’t see a lot of other well regarded European manufacturers either.

I’ve seen a bit on American trails but seems too heavy for summer backpacking season.

I don't have any of their soft goods, but avalanche probes, snow shovel, and picket posts for snow camping they are the deal. As a teen in the late 60s, when there were few American choices, I had a canvas climbing rucksack and cagoule from Mamumut. I have a new young outfitter a block away that carries them and Fjallraven. Looks like serious stuff. I prefer Patagonia because of public and corporate policies.

I’ve been looking to get a few new tech t-shirts. I found Mammut Trovat tech t-shirts for just a little over $30 (a shirt) online, so I ordered three. Well, my Mammut Trovat T-shirts arrived on Saturday. First cursory inspection showed excellent quality control. Very nice stitching on the shirts. No flaws and nothing loose observed. I really like the deep ice color (catchy!). Nice to have short-sleeved shirts that are actually short (seems the last few years ss shirts are way too long. Can’t stand when ss shirts are almost to the elbow). The shirts are made of 81% recycled polyester, 14% organic cotton and 5% spandex. They are also have 50+ UPF rating from the sun. The shirts are comfortable, breathable and look good, too. I’m wearing one as I write this post. I was surprised to see the shirts are made in Lithuanian. Don’t think I’ve ever owned anything made there. Mammut is a Swiss company; it also owns what was Raichle Boots. Based on my first impressions of these shirts I look forwarded to trying more of their products in the future. I bought these shirts from Steep and Cheap; it’s affiliated with Backcountry. I’ve never bought anything from Steep and Cheap in the past. Happy Trails, DR

Mammut (Switzerland), Norrona (Norway), and RAB (UK) are quality brands. I used a RAB hard shell for a number of years and still wear one of their down parkas. I haven't used Mammut or Norrona in the field, but I've handled Mammut hard shells and Norrona hard shells and down jackets. Another Europe-based brand worth considering for down gear is Valandre (France/Pyrenees) - I wear one of their down jackets, the Troll, for winter trips. It's outstanding.
A few thoughts about EU-based brands: 1) shop around and consider buying off-season. I've sometimes found better prices dealing directly with sellers based in Europe than buying through US-based sites at times, and off-season, you're more likely to get a good discount, particularly on clearance items, less popular colors if you're willing to go there. 2) do homework about sizing. Many EU-based brands run slim, and I very often size up to get the best fit for me. Don't hesitate to use phone calls or chat functions on websites; I've had multiple one-on-one discussions about sizing in advance of purchases, and I think they saved me some trouble and returns.

Excellent advice, Leadbelly! I always appreciate your feedback on the forum. Yes, I’ve noticed the Euro sizing tends to be slim. Thx again for replying. I’d like to try a Mammut down jacket. Interesting article on Mammut. I didn’t know they were bought out a few years back. As per the article Mammut has almost quadrupled its revenue in the US over the last four years. It also missed the mark in the US with its shoe line (they bought Raichle boots a few years back and incorporated their line into Mammut) as it didn’t focus on trail runners. Mammut does not plan on adding any retail stores in the US; however, they plan on adding 5 outlet stores in the US market. Mammut is definitely planning on increasing its presence in the US market. thedaily.outdoorretailer.com/news/brands-and-retailers/mammut-aiming-for-100-million-in-north-american-revenue/#:~:text=Mammut%20Growth%20Story,40%20workers%20in%20North%20America. Well, over the last three months I’ve really enjoyed the Mammut gear & apparel gear I’ve purchased. Recently, I purchased several Mammut Core T-Shirt Classics. I really like the fit and feel of the shirts (regular cut). They’re a 50/50 organic cotton/polyester shirt. Excellent quality control on the shirts. I was surprised to see they’re made in Turkey. Love the short sleeves as they’re actually short and don’t go down to your elbows. I use them for day hiking, nature photography, bouldering and also at work. Nice colors and I like the graphic design. I also like the collar as it’s more relaxed. I also bought the shirts at a discount. 50/50 cotton/poly is fine with me. I won’t wear all cotton for outdoor activities. Check ‘em out if you’re looking for new t-shirt. Oh, the one thing about the Mammut Trovat Tech t-shirts I bought (see post above) that I forgot to mention is they have a high collar. I still like them but would much rather prefer a relaxed or v-neck collar. Happy Trails, DR
