Here’s the plan so far (the backcountry laughs at plans). Flying to SLC, driving to Pinedale. Burgers at Wind River Brewing. Next day we’ll do an acclimating dayhike from Elkhart. Pop over to the Great Outdoors Shop for Bear Spray, etc. Get the latest info. Then we set out-due to my decrepit, elderly, physical condition, we’re having our packs horsed in to Marys Lake, our first nights camp. Then we’d like to follow the Pole Creek Trail, to the Highline Trail to the Cook Lakes, and then Wall Lake. If we are intrepid enough at this point, we’ll go off trail, around the East side of Wall Lake, and over the Wall-Island pass. And we’ll see from there. Hike up Indian Basin one day, Titcomb, Mistake lake, etc. A wet year, so the Wildflowers (and mosquitos) should be out. It will be our 12th year, between the Winds and Beartooths. We missed last year unfortunately, so we're looking forward to this trip.

I’m here (Pinedale) now. You are correct. Wildflowers are out big time. Skeeters are pretty bad.

Let me know when you graduate to the Absaroka. In all seriousness have an awesome time. Buy you one from other great area breweries if you come through. Does WRB still have "TKO?" That !@#$ was almost 14%. Have you ever had Melvin's 2X4?

Look forward to your trip report. I took my girlfriend on that loop last year. First night at Cook L, over Wall/Island Pass to the NW end of Island, day hike to Titcomb, then back out. Wall/Island was a bit tougher than I'd thought. Got stuck in some willows at a couple of points. She struggled near the pass but some food and rest were all that was needed. Wish we'd spent more time in Titcomb. I fished unsuccessfully at the top of the first lake. A storm was starting to build so we retreated to camp. Leaving in a few weeks for a month out there. Hope to finally make it to the remote Bear Basin with a friend from Idaho. Let me know when you graduate to the Absaroka Really need to get a good loop through the Absaroka's too! My friend is doing a big loop through the Teton Wilderness soon. I just want to complete my quest for golden trout in the Winds. So much to see out there!
