I was looking to do a last minute trip. (next week), and Portola Redwoods State Park is a fairly local destination. I was hoping to drive down and camp at the campground the first night. Then Hike in to one of the trail camps for 2-3 days. Does anyone have any tips to offer on the location, trails, etc. Thank You

Nothing current but with how weather has hammered so much of the state I’d definitely suggest calling first. Downed trees, floods have all severely challenged state maintenance resources across the entire system. I love that part of the state! A bit of a hidden gift. Hopefully you’ll get great photos! . www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=539I suppose my one tip is regardless of forecast fog drip off the trees means there’ll likely be “rain” even if there isn’t…I’d at least bring a tarp. Plus this:

They had a brief shutdown a few days ago wrestling downed trees but they're back open now. Wondering if there's a place to park while backpacking in. Reserve a camp site the first night and then park elsewhere for the hike in.

The park brochure shows parking so there are choices depending on trail selection. www.parks.ca.gov/pages/539/files/PortolaRedwoodsSP_CampMap2019.pdfThe Slate Creek trail campsites are reservable. I love the green of a temperate rain forest. My experience along the Hoh in Washington state possibly changed my life as a photographer.
