I posted this on FB and so I thought I would share it here as well. Thought I would take the time to update on my eye issues and why I wear an eye patch on occasion. For those who are not aware, due to the many eye surgeries and longterm use of eye drop medications, my eyes, and my left eye in particular, are subject to drying of the cornea and sclera. This results in a painful condition and makes my eyes sensitive to anything that would further dry them. Thus occasionally I wear an eye patch on my left eye to protect it from breezes and air pollution. As of the last several months, the pain and irritation in my left eye had become almost unbearable. I have used artificial tears, medicinal gels, steroid drops, and anti-inflammatory medicinal to combat the problem. That prompted me to do a deep dive on the issue and out of despair I tried a simple technique in hopes of some relief, holding a hot moist wash cloth against my eyes and making sure to cleanse the base of my eye lashes. And to my joy, it seemed to bring almost immediate relief of my discomfort. Who would have thought something so simple could make such a huge impact on my eye health? Truthfully I remember my previous eybe doctor suggesting this two or three years ago but I never gave it a try. Silly me! Anyway I am feeling hopeful now that this will help me live a better quality of life, because the pain was becoming a real problem. I am not without some discomfort and I still wear an eye patch on occasion, but I am in a much better place now. Then again, I still be a pirate! (Photo from the past summer in Ireland) Rumi

Sometimes the best solutions are the simplest.

I'm happy for you that you found a solution and it's worth celebrating (if that's what you're doing in that pic). Anyone who has suffered sustained condition that causes constant significant pain/irritation/disability that makes life harder understand the relief that comes after a solution is found that brings relief. Just last night I heard a story about a guy who had hiccups for 68 years until the mysteriously stopped. It may not be pain as we traditionally think of it but man I just can't imagine.

Coincidentally, my sister-in-law JUST got a microwavable eye cover (like a sleeping mask,) that comes with disposable sheets that go on the inside of the mask. The sheets have some sort of lotions and potions and are moistened before use. This mask is used before applying medication or drops to the eyes.
