I have a trip to Yosemite on the books for the first week of October. I'll be hiking in from the Hoover Wilderness via the Robinson Creek trailhead. I'll be in the backcountry for 5 nights. I live roughly nine hours from the trailhead by car. Wife wants me to rent a car and leave our Camry at home. So for those of you familiar with the area, have there been any issues with human vandalism to people's cars at the Robinson Creek trailhead?

We left my car at the campground at Lower Twin Lakes and had no problems. Things may have changed but I can find no reports of vandalism recently.

I’ve been leaving my vehicle at THs all over the Sierra for the last 25 years or so, and never had a problem. That doesn’t mean they’re all safe, of course, but in general, especially if you don’t leave obviously interesting stuff visible, you’ll probably be fine.

Obviously I don't know your personal financial situation, but if I was really concerned about trailhead vandalism I'd put the car rental on a card that covers the rental insurance as part of their benefits. Otherwise, if it really worries you get the insurance from the rental company. $150 in insurance may bring you peace of mind. Ask you own car insurance if you took out full coverage on your car if that would apply to the rental? If you take that out on your Camry, canceling it when you get home, it might be the cheapest option. As always, take any financial advice as a free opinion. It isn't worth much.

Park here instead of the isolated trailhead if it’s convenient enough? Ask them how it’d work, maybe a small fee. monovillage.com/
