We're going to backpack in Bandelier NM mid-April and I'm currently figuring out the permit. The must see is the Stone Lions and Yapashi Pueblo. All else is up for consideration. Any trails or destinations that we should consider? Thoughts, advice?

Going down past the falls to the Rio is quite nice, just 6 or 7 total miles I think. Saw big lion tracks down there about 15 years ago. Shrine of the Stone Lions is cool but some folks will be dissapointed if they have unreasonable expectations. Do the entire Frijoles Canon tourist route, great stuff. Near La Cueva the 5 hile hike in and out of San Antonio Hot Springs is WONDERFUL reward. As far as I know the gate remains closed. Jemez Falls and the 5 mile hike to those warm Springs is awesome. Also near La Cueva Spence Hot Springs is pretty darn incredible but close to the road.

Th trail from th falls to th river “washed” out years ago cutting off access. Hopefully y’all got over to painted cave in Capulin Canyon…that is a must see site!
