Though this is nominally children's or young adult, I got a kick out of Hiaasen's major send-up of Bear Grylls. As always, it's set in Florida, where Wahoo Cray and his dad are trying to make ends meet with their animal-wrangling business after Dad got a concussion from a frozen iguana falling out of a tree...that's the sort of delightful absurdity Hiaasen does well. For folks around here, the fun really starts with Derek Badger, the star of a "Man vs. Wild" "reality" show hires the crew for his episode in the Everglades.
The skewering of these "survivor" shows is fun, but Hiaasen is a good author, and there's some real story here, too.

Thanks for the heads up. I enjoy Hiaasen's books, and this sounds like a good one to read with the little nature lover in the house. My boys have enjoyed Hoot and Flush, so this should be a hit as well.

It felt a little more adult than Hoot (haven't yet read Flush), not for anything about sex, but some pretty real danger. I'd say for about 12 and up.
