I'd like to try steamed kale on the trail. It seems pretty easy, just put a small amount of water a pot and toss the kale in elevated somehow.
The "somehow" is my question. How do I keep the kale out of the water? I could put some rocks in the pot, but I don't like that idea.
Suggestions?

While backpacking through the kale steppes of Asia Minor, I subsisted for weeks on kale with an occasional kabob for protein. Take plenty of balsamic vinegar.

I make kale shakes a lot. I call them "nutrition grenades". I just boil my kale right in the water and strain using either the pot lid or a collander. Kale is a very robust green and boiling won't turn it to mush unless you just boil way too long. It only takes 2-3 minutes to make it nice and tender for my shakes.

"Steam-saute" it in a covered pan with a little olive oil with just a sprinkle of water.
Great dish with pasta, Italian sausage, garlic, finished off with grated Romano cheese.
