Meh. She happened to have a go-pro strapped to her when she slipped. Surely a mistake to step on the wet rock, but I wouldn't nominate her for a Darwin Award.
BTW, my co-workers are probably wondering what exactly I'm watching.

I agree. Her real mistake was the rock, not the Go-Pro. And I've certainly stepped on my fair share of slippery rocks.

The moment her right foot slips on moisture can easily be seen, and she's walking forward, right at the edge. If what was trying to take a selfie at that point, well, it's no surprise that she went down.
For the life of me, I still fail to understand why some people are so obsessed with selfies that they lose common sense. She could have taken a photo w/o going right up to the edge. She's now had 3 years to think about that; hopefully she's developed some common sense in that time.

I don't think technically there was a selfie involved at all. She was probably trying to get better footage for the cam on her head and not thinking about her own safety enough but she wasn't trying to get herself in the footage.
I'm wondering why now on releasing the footage? Maybe to increase her YouTube subscribers?

Technically, you are correct, it was not a selfie. Most likely she was trying to get footage of the waterfall. That said, it is apparent she was so focused on the camera that she was not paying attention.

I'm not sure that the Go-Pro was involved at all. I think she was just trying to do what lots of people do: getting a clear view over the falls. I've seen this numerous times near cascades...
She was probably wearing the camera for the whole hike. She may have even forgotten she was wearing it.

Selfie, or not, that was dumb.

She was probably wearing the camera for the whole hike. She may have even forgotten she was wearing it. I have a Hero 4 and unless the newer models have greatly improved performance I only get about 40 minutes a charged battery so if she was doing a whole hike there would have to be a couple of battery changes. More likely it was just on for the falls (not the fall) and other highlights.
