Since 2015 is winding down I think it's time to put up this thread, for you to put up your BEST photo taken in 2015. I think it would be much better if people stick to a single photo - less is more. Be selective. If you really can't decide, post more, but try and stick to not more than three.
You decide the criteria for why it's your best, technically or otherwise, but it's more fun if you let us know that reason.

I was able to take more wildlife photos in 2015 than I've taken in prior years. While these didn't feature the most exotic wildlife around, they were better pictures of this type than any I'd taken previously, so I was quite happy. I'd begun to think I'd never manage to get the hang of wildlife photography; the small step forward that I took in 2015 was most encouraging. The photo above was taken in Cataloochee Valley, in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I had scheduled an entire day to observe the elk. It was October and the time of the rut. Watching the testosterone fueled antics of the males was awesome, though one had to be careful to not get too close. Surprisingly, my favorite photo from the day (above) was taken from the car. I was driving away from the valley when I saw this elk basking in the sun. I rolled the window halfway down to use it as a rest for my 400mm lens and took the picture. My favorite part of the photo is the sprinkling of little scintillating motes surrounding the elk, created by sunlight hitting some flies.

I'm not sure I can even narrow it down to three, but I'll try. It's not often you get a "bright" comet and a bright DSO (Deep Space Object) in a small field, but in January, Comet Lovejoy serenely glided past the Pleiades. This years "Bat Season" was extremely short, but I got some of my sharpest photos yet. The Lunar Eclipse in Sept was the first I was able to use ALL of my gear on, and I won a few "awards" for this photo.

And like I said, I can't stop there. It get's even harder to narrow it down three DSO's through the big scope, but here goes. The Leo Trio The Pleiades And picking my 3rd favorite is really hard, but I'm going to go with M33

I don't like "Your BEST photo of 2015" because I think I suck, but some of my photos suck less than others. I use the term "Favorite" and I'm in the process of collecting my favorite 10 (or so) photos of 2015 on my blog, but I haven't posted it yet. That said, I think this is my "Most Favorite" photo of 2015. Sad that some many acres of trees and structures were lost on the "Rough Fire", but I like it because it's different. It wasn't a typical picture from Yosemite or my local wetlands. We were out there because my oldest daughter was at Church Camp. Thankfully their camp was spared.

What a challenge! I am just an amateur at photography, so my pics are mediocre. I have a lot of fun taking them, though. I couldn't decided what my "best" photo is, so I went with a photo of one of my most favorite places, Mills Lake in RMNP. This is my "special place."

Not sure about "best," but I like this shot of Mt. Whatcom in the North Cascades.

Couldn't seem to upload a photo directly here, but here's a link to the photo on my website. link
Didn't get a lot of wildlife photos in 2015, but my wife & I sure did hike our butts off this past year ... almost glad it's winter so we can rest up a bit.

Technically not the best photo I took over the year, but certainly my favorite and most memorable. I don't remember the exact circumstances, but I recall the night before I had only gotten a few hours of sleep and my youngest son (age 7) woke me up at 5:00 AM. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts to see if he would go back to bed, I asked if he would want to go down to the beach and watch the sun come up. So I grabbed a cup of coffee, a couple of blankets (the wind was blowing pretty hard that morning, hence all of the washed up sargassum weed) and we walked down and watched the sunrise together. It was a beautiful morning.

This storm produced a tornado a few minutes later in Cameron, Illinois. I learned a lot more about storm chasing last year, but 2016 will be the year I finally get a good tornado picture. Stronghurst Supercell by Kevin Palmer, on Flickr 2015 was an outstanding year for the aurora borealis. I was to see/capture the northern lights 13 times, mostly from Central IL. This one is from southern WI on June 22nd. Once in a Lifetime by Kevin Palmer, on Flickr The Buffalo National River at the end of October was gorgeous. Buffalo Morning by Kevin Palmer, on Flickr

I don't think I can give a single best shot for the year, or even a favorite. But I can do best of category in a few categories. Best of sunset (and even this is not necessarily the best. We had some amazing sunset last summer) (Columbine Lake, out of Mineral King in Sequoia NP):
