I ran across a recipe for mixed seafood, rice, and curry that sounds delicious. But I have never heard of dehydrating seafood. Anybody ever try it? Is there such a thing as freeze dried seafood? Or should I just carry in the pouches/cans of clams and shrimp?

You can buy dried shrimp, etc. at Asian markets.
I've carried pouch shrimp...it's not too heavy. I wouldn't recommend cans.

A couple of months ago I dehydrated some marinated salmon and it was delicious. I just bought another salmon steak. It is in the freezer. I do that to help make it is safe to eat. Also dry it at max temp for my dehydrator. I think this is the recipe I used:
I just ate it at home. A little afraid that on the trail it smells as good as it tastes and a bear might come looking for a snack.
I have dried cans of tuna in water (not oil). Definitely better things to add to meals for protein. Pretty fishy. I have read you can dehydrate cooked shrimp but have not done it myself.

I’m pretty sure you can get freeze-dried shrimp, etc., and that’s what I’d look for. I’m thinking that in addition to what Ernie says about the taste, the drying process would really stink up the house! Pouch stuff is good, too, cleaner as well as somewhat lighter than cans (and no can opener needed).

I tried using dried tuna as a addin to FD meals. The combination of the FD effect and the added fishy-ness was not very palatable.
My dad used to get these bags a little spicy, crunchy dried shrimp. They were very tasty. I am going to look into getting some of these again.

Mountain House makes a good seafood chowder. It has clams and shrimp in it. I see where it is currently only available as a Cold Weather Meal, packed like they would for the military. MCW is how they market their products.

Speaking of dried foods....In recent years we have begun taking dried mushrooms with us on backpacks. They weigh absolutely nothing and after rehydrating add lots of flavor to most any of the usual glop in the pot.

Dehydrating seafood? Never tried it. GAAK! Never wanted seafood while on the trail.
