Don't you have any pictures of him, Deborah? I still chuckle every time I think of Dragon's reaction to his first snowbank Sure I do, but he is already well represented.

Because I'm jealous of all you fine people who hike with their dogs I have another question. This weekend I did a quick two night trip and I got dumped on with rain two times. The second time there was no warning it just blew out of no where and it didn't just start with a sprinkle. So I'm curious do you guys just bring your drenched dogs in the tent with you and just put up with the mess? I saw a couple dogs on the trail this weekend with their owners but when that last rain moved in and I thought about it I was glad I didn't have a dog with me.

So I'm curious do you guys just bring your drenched dogs in the tent with you and just put up with the mess? If I'm tarping it I usually have one of those large orange garbage bags that I slip my sleeping bag into when I have wet weather. Not specifically because of the dog but it protects the bag from her as well. When I'm using a tent and the dog is wet I will usually lay a nylon poncho (that is actually my groundsheet when tarping) over the top of my bag. You can use something like that to protect your tent floor from her claws as well although I've never had an issue with that. In regards to your early query about dog bedding, mine uses a half length of a blue closed cell pad and, in cooler temps, one of those small fleece blankets you seem to be able to buy just about anywhere. She also has her PJs. And one final pic. Not really backpacking but backcountry.

I always keep a medium sized pack towel in Floyd's pack, just in case. I have also brought pet wipes, when I have thought there might be a strong possibility of Floyd getting muddy. As long as the dog isn't completely drenched, it's really not a problem, so you just want to be able to get him to the point that he's not shaking by the time he comes in the tent. A damp dog really doesn't make any mess, as long as he stays on his bed.

Thanks you guys for the feedback. I think I'm gonna give this a shot next spring on my opening hike.
