Hello, I have a quest this year to get some great landscape shots of blooming dogwood trees on the trail this spring, but I can't find any info on where some great dogwood groves are in eastern Oklahoma. Anyone know of any backpacking trails that have dense dogwood populations? I really want to find a forest of dogwoods full of white blooms come late March early April. Any suggestions?

we have pretty thick forest in the East. under canopy, blooms are much less dense and less photogenic. the more camera friendly, will be the "wolf trees" growing alone in a field, though that's not the ideal condition for a dogwood.
I would do a search for arboretums in your area.
or switch gears and go see the azalea bloom on Gregory Bald (Smokies) in the third week of June --stunning!

You can drive just about any backroad in Delaware, Cherokee, Adair, or Sequoyah counties and find many dogwoods. I suspect, although I've not hiked it at that time of the year, that Greenleaf Trail at Greenleaf State Park would have a good number of them. I know Cookson Hills Game Management Area, which is my backyard, has many dogwoods, just check the regulations for when you can and can not go in there. Also, a hunting or fishing license from Oklahoma is required.
As you can tell, backpacking trails aren't in a great supply in northeastern Oklahoma. Southeastern Oklahoma has the Ouachita Trail and a number of other branch trails from it. I'm sure, again I've not been down there at the right time, that they have good dogwood areas. I know they have redbud groves, having backpacked there then, but the dogwoods hadn't come out yet.

Not OK, but the forests around Mena, AR have quite a few dogwoods. Never seen them in groves though.

Good luck with the dogwoods. If stunning pics of beautiful flowers are what you are looking for, check out the Azalea Festival in Muskogee. You will have to check in off and on to find out when it will be each year. You can usually find the dates for the current year on line The timing depends on the weather. It is not a hiking trail, but is many acres of bright Azaleas.
