I live in las vegas and am looking for a partner for an August ascent of Mt. Hood or comparable mountain. I've hiked many 14ers and high mountains but have very little alpine experience. I'd to train my way up to do an ascent of Denali.

Mt. Hood is a great first alpine mt. to climb. Relatively easy. I would join but I just moved to the east coast.

Regarding commercial use:
They issue no permits for new commercial operators within any Wilderness areas.
There are "priority use" permits for outfitters who are grandfathered into wilderness use bc they operated there before it was designated wilderness.
And there are 10 "temporary use" permits issued, giving priority to groups that serve 'underrepresented populations'. But these are not allowed to operate within Wilderness.
More permits may be offered in the future within wilderness areas, but only after a capacity study is undertaken and is found to warrant more permits. (Who knows when or if that might happen.)
